Rocketry goals review for Mar/Apr/May 2015

Huh. Somehow I lost a month, or something… there was supposed to be a goals review for March and April a month ago. Ah well. June is the new May.

  1. Level 1 certification
We did have the presentation at the March meeting, right after which I placed my order for a Binder Design Excel, and I pretty much finished assembling it on the last day of May. I picked up an H motor and hardware at NYPower. Just have to finish it and fly it… possibly in that order.
  2. Fly an I motor
    Obviously not yet.
  3. Put an entry (however pathetic) into at least four club launch contests and four club launch themes
I flew one contest (and theme) flight at the May launch (and came in third — Roger blew Scott and me away, though). The June contest (and theme) rocket is in primer; I’ll enter it whether it’s finished or not. Another June theme (and NARTREK Silver) rocket, the Ranger, is awaiting paint — but I probably will delay flying that if I don’t finish it for this month. Helicopter rocket for the August contest is coming in very widely spaced increments of progress. I doubt I’ll build a new odd-roc for the August theme. Tomahawk for the September theme and contest (and NARTREK Silver) needs painting. Lots of painting. Rockets for other themes and contests are in hand.
  4. NARTREK Silver
See above for Ranger and Tomahawk status. I haven’t done any NARTREK flights yet this year.
  5. Complete all rockets in progress or in the build pile as of 1 Jan 2015 (see first 10 entries in table below)
Assembled Big Daddy and Honest Goon. Second primer on Sea Sting. Haven’t gotten much painting done.
  6. Adhere to a budget
Significantly under budget, pretty much because I haven’t bought any composite motors yet aside from the certification motor. I expect I’ll spend that money, just not yet. Other than that I’m staying fairly close.
  7. Fly lots of stuff
Only 10 flights between the first club launch and NYPower, but that’s enough.
  8. Have fun
More than in February, yeah. By a lot.

Victories and notable activities other than the above:

  1. NYPower, all three days.
  2. Put out 2nd and 3rd issues of What’s Up.
  3. Came up with a nice (if it works!) odd-roc concept.
  4. Flew my first G motor (successful up, not so successful down).
