Whoa, wait, did I not update you on this? I’m fired.

I cut and papered new fins, and did a much better job gluing them in.* Then fillets. IMG_6204And a launch lug, and ready for paint.IMG_6930

* After the first one, I finally succumbed to reality and widened the remaining two slots a little. They really were too tight for the balsa I was using. Also, as an obvious improvement over my previous procedure, I left out the rear centering ring while inserting the fins: The glued-in forward ring was enough to hold the motor mount in place.
